Burial At Sea

You don’t need to be in the navy to be buried at sea. Sea burials and scattered ashes are a perfect send-off for anyone with a maritime past or with a particular love for the water.

Scattering ashes at sea is the most common form of ceremony, but sea burials are also possible. For the latter, the body will be laid in a suitable, biodegradable coffin and dressed in biodegradable clothes. They will be lowered into the sea at an approved burial site, complete with a touching ceremony that can be conducted on or off the boat.

A license is required for a burial at sea. As experienced funeral directors and members of the NAFD, we can advise and help regarding all necessary documentation and paperwork.

    You can choose a memorial at any time, however, the headstone should only be erected six months after the burial. The top resource in the UK for arranging a headstone is the Memorial Group.
    The price will depend on your requirements, including the headstone of choice, and the way in which the ceremony is handled. Please contact us directly in order to discuss.
